The Lost Experience Begins!

Welcome to www.TheLostExperience.com, your one source for all of the clues, videos, pics, and theories related to "The LOST Experience", ABC's innovative online game that takes you deep within the secrets of the hit show LOST.

The LOST Experience takes LOST fans on an expansive, international easter egg hunt through websites, commercials, emails, phone numbers, and more, in search of pieces to a larger puzzle, a puzzle which, when solved, will enlighten LOST fans to some of the shows deepest mysteries!

Jump off the Glyph

Well... the hacking saga comes to an end at last (?) with our adversary, the mysterious Grendel, delivering upon us a new glyph, and a new piece of the Sri Lanka mystery.

To recap:

It began as a simple defacing.  Our logo was reversed,  our alignment disturbed,  our posts ran blood red.  Something was going on, and it wasn't good.

Vex, and Doc set out to track down an intruder, and instead found an interloper with a philosophy;  the mysterious "Gee" was here to stay until his message was out.  A bit of code in the template source proclaimed "I am not your enemy", while mysterious posts signed by single letters began to filter into the comments.

Soon, the hacker revealed he had finished phase one. The letters added up to seeming nonsense: S I M N O B A U D.  Several were quick to solve this part of the equation using their superior brainpower, and a couple by using scripts (cheaters!) to come up with "subdomain".

Next a mysterious piece of text:  GCWH PIFHGUV QVWP YSH ASDDUK.  Another anagram?  No!  A cryptogram!  Again, while his hacking skills were formidable,  his encoding was no match for the sheer intelligence of the lost experience community.  "THIS MONSTER GRIM WAS CALLED".

Soon, enterprising players discovered that this line was a direct reference to the name of "Grendel" from the epic "Beowulf".

Grendel himself taunted us:  We had the key,  but he had the lock.  It turned out to be a lock of time;  we waited anxiously for the mysterious hacker to show up again, and show up he did.  At the time of his choosing, a new domain opened up here at www.thelostexperience.com: http://grendel.thelostexperience.com and revealed... A BLANK PAGE!

Luckily, Grendel had not left us without a clue.  His fondness for the words "light" and "contrast" made since when "thelock.gif" was taken from the page and adjusted for contrast,  revealing the gif above.

Finally, I can come back out of hiding:P That was great, I am so proud to have had my name used!

Ah, finally! Thanks TLE, and thanks Grendel ;)

Peace and Namaste

postDenial- This is a good a place as any to talk about the "experience".

Well, glad to see that this was productive. TTS is on the map finally in the glyph hunt.

Please Lostpedian... keep posting so people will come back just to see what you said...

GUYS - we have the damn glyph (though it took four days) and so now we can stop talking here.

If you're a casual player of the game, http://insidetheexperience.com offers weekly recaps and a very friendly atmosphere. If you're the more active player, http://thelostexperienceclues.com is always the first to post new information and the team working together in the blog comments and in chat are the fastest out there.

how's that egg taste, lostpedian?

But Postdenial / Lostpedian/ Loser, you said there would be no glyph?

Egg, huh? My complaint from the start was that either it was a glyph (and DocArzt wasjust painfully dragging it out) or it was completely fake (as an attention grabber).

I still think the truth was somewhere in between. TLEC's glyph hunt was amazing compared to this - active, friendly, creative, and done within 10 hours.

Then go bug them LP. In fact, I will go let them know you're coming, maybe they will bake you a cake.

Lostpedian, no matter how much you kiss TLEC's ass, the people there will dislike you just as much as everywhere else.

FYI...

Lostpedian... the only thing that has not been friendly is you? And did you happen to notice how much everybody else actually enjoyed it? Think about this too, after flaming the site and me, I actually gave you a second chance. Normally, when somebody doesn't like a site, they just don't go there. You seem to think you have a duty to make your opinion known; even if 95% of the people disagree with you. But I was liberal about it. When you started to show signs of coming around, I lifted your ban as a show of good faith. But that means nothing to you. Y'know why? Because you are a totally downer man. You just want to bring everybody down. You are a sad sad person, Lostpedian. The only reason I'm not more actively trying to keep you off the site right now is because your like our freak-show attraction. And, I kinda like watching everybody beat your around.

Yes, please spare us this insecurity-driven 'mine is cooler' silliness. The game is the focus, not you. Move on already.

Meanwhile, for the rest of us, who are actually focused on the game... I think I get the concept behind the Mittlewerk section of the video. It's the classic 'Would you let 10 people die to save the world? 100? 1000?' (See also: Swordfish, among others) I've suspected for a while that the most significant parts of this video would come near the end of the search, and as we get closer to the end, that theory seems to be true:

Purpose of Mittlewerk's speech
Identity of Alvar Hanso in the Dharma video
Referencing the Lost island (c'mon, it has to be...) :)

Hurray, aren't you folk lucky, Lostpedian is coming to your site. Beware however, he is a rascally devil! May cause a stir, I know he did here at TTS! Oh, bake him a cake!

Sorry for your luck,
XMOZZAX
DOTTS

Signed sealed delivered!
The cake is waiting

/me beats lostpedian in expression of gratitude for how doc handled this situation.

Creed, good points.

All of them.

GOOD THING YOU DIDNT TURN HIM IN TO THE POLICE!!!

I guess this answers the whole call out to Rachel Blake that you guys made.

Man talk about melodrama

Hey all,

Im sure we all got the e mail from Miss Blake. It says shes doing good, but still on the run and we should keep an eye on the apollo candy site.

Not only are their dates to get a free Apollo bar if you click on the US (those of us in LA should all meet up next Tuesday at the Santa Monica giveaway) and if you click on the UK, it reveals that thursdays code is "Alvar Hanso."

CREED, i think you mean 'Utilitarianism' ie going for the greater benefit mathematically/logically.

What a load of fun that was, the glyph being more intimate with the players than normal, great entertainment.

My view on Lostpedian, hmm, they balance out the fans, there has to be one negative, causes people to think more, look at reason rather than just premise; people have to give LP a reason why, and if LP makes a valid argument to show the original comment had no reason, they have done well, even if they seem negative.

From what i read of LP so far they didn't seem to be a bad person just a pest...

...oo Crocodile Dundee II is on!

L8z

Oh cool! Lostpedian has a minion. Jojo!

Bless your heart, jamboni... You've obviously just come across the ass that is Lostpedian.

Trust me, the opinions expressed here are based on a long history with the troll.

Well, I found the whole experience enjoyable, and while I'm only a casual follower of the lost experience events, I found myself visiting this site quite a bit over the past four days (despite Lostpedian).
Congrats to the site, and those who participated in solving the riddle and finding the glyph.
Also, you watch your step over there Gee... I still don't believe you're innocent in all of this... I'm watching you! =P
gg all

aww, thanx Vex, lol
-
I kinda read about LP for a while, found a few of his/her posts but just found them argumentative, or jealous, they never really had any points, but i'm still 2 find some more.
-
LP is yet to bother me (might get a bothering now i've said that, but now i've said this i might not, etc, etc) but i'm just getting on with the game at the mo, helping the storyline
-
Philosopher

Octavian- Believe me, I'm completely innocent... OR AM I? Dun, dun, Duunnnn

Let me be clear on something. I don't mind criticism. It doesn't bother me at all. We have not covered the game step by step as well as everyone. Then again, in some aspects we have been at the heart of it. When this site started, we were the first to break many of the codes, as well as even officially kick off tracking the game. Twelve-thousand people joined the forum through the gateway offered here. Do I have regrets? Heck no. Because I have no regrets, it doesn't bother me that somebody might not like what we do, or how we do it. Because we do it all for the love of lost, try to make it as fun as we can, and that is it. Now when someone like Lostpedian comes in here just a ball of negative energy striking at the core of every good natured move we make, that I find a little offensive. Why? Because that says that LOSTPEDIAN has contempt for good natured people who are trying to express their love for LOST and this game. Period. And people like that aren't guests in my house. So if you don't like the site, I hope you find one you like. If your just here because you hate Me, Vex, Matty, and the rest of us, do us a favor and screw off.

That was fun! Thanks to the mods and all who were involved in this glyph hunt. I like finding them through puzzles rather than having people find them in real life. (Though I don't begrudge those people their points---chasing down a car! Whew!) So thanks for a fun puzzle!

Don't hold back, Arzt... Let us know how you really feel. *wink*
Seriously, the site is great, keep up the good work, and I like where your head's at.

I know we are all busy talking about the just finished hacker-wars, but did anyone notice the code Racheal emailed us all about?

Apology accepted, Doc.

please don't compare me to lostpedian. I think the way he's coming in here to shill for another site is pretty crappy.

Actually I think the hack thing was cool in the end, it just seemed a bit contrived at the time. However I never understood the whole post that was calling out to rachel blake and this kind of tied that together so that's cool.

So how was the cryptograph figured out? The anagram, I got but the cryptograph was way out there. Too hard for my pea brain...

This hunt was so fun, everyone here rocks!!(well not LP of course)great job everyone!

Thanks for clearing that up, Jojo...

I knew this would happen

LP, the best apology you could give me is to just KEEP ON TAP DANCING....

http://www.essense.com/dancing_monkey.gif

lol just seen this gif, thought it was appropriate

You knew what would happen, Phillipx?

I knew that a glyph would come out of all this. The interesting thing is that the iplogs werent more beneficial to the webmasters. But such is life. Still great to know that Im in the right place to find all the Lost experience knowledge that is out there.

Actually, now that i think about it, its pretty hard to set up a subdomain without having direct access to the ftp and host. Methinks something or someone may not be telling the WHOLE truth.

yeah i think so phillip

Just wanted to post this again...since things are moving soooo fast today!

Thanks again everybody at TLE....

That was much more fun than we have had in a while!

And even I was able to do it on my own without a lot of fancy software, etc.

Non-techies like me thank you from the bottom of our hearts for letting us get in on the fun and actually figure it out for ourselves!

And for all the naysayers...WTF! I guess it's true you can't please all the people all the time. First it's don't hand it to us, than it's what are you trying to do? Be in-game? Then my blog did it better than your blog, jeesh!

TLE....you did AWESOME!

Anyone else, if your blog is sooooo hunky dorry great, than why didn't you leave this one to the rest of us and just stay out! Seems you wanted to play after all, so quit telling folks to leave here now that the 'drama' is done! Huff! Sorry had to get that off my chest, even if this isn't my 'home' blog.

doc, matty, vex and all...I thought it was fab..loved watching the mystery unravel...and the team work involved in solving it...it was riveting!

Thanks- even though i wasn't directly involved, just had to keep my mouth zipped.

As a Former PI (and owner of a ghillie suit) I think DocArzt might have some splaining to do....
wie?

congrats to ya'll for a good glyph hunt!

Phillipx, non.

Whereisalvar is now up, but it requires a username and password, any ideas?

Long time lurker here. I agree with Ms O. I thought it was great glyph hunting. I had more fun with this then the TLEC hunt.
Good job Guys!!!

Just my 2 cents...

guessing Phillpx home blog isn't as great as he was saying since he's still hanging out here, LOL!

guessing you havent seen my site since its not a blog, and im hanging out here just to see what is developing, not that i cant do it on my own page since rss is faster than just this one site. I have more lost resources available to me that you could even fathom. Sorry Ms. O. Please refrain from passing judgement on another prior to examining all the facts so you can make an informed intelligent statement.

Phillipx....seems like you are passing enough judgement for all of us today....

Nope, simply stating facts.

Hey Ms. O I think Phillipx is just yanking my chain.

phillipx if you have such awesome resources how come your name isnt all over Hansoexposed or any other ingame site? Joop even has his own site so haveing a site is cool but not that cool!!

Sorry doc no offense

Doc....not my battle, I'll stay out of it, but want to know if you ever checked out my goldtop?

Hey TLE admin & others, great job! Thanks! It was alot of fun for me. The only thing that disappointed me from all of this is that Grendel's glyph wasn't #42. Ugh!

Doc should realize why my name isnt all over everything, And im not claiming to have all the answers, just access to some of the answers. additionally, I'm concerned that Doc and I have EXTREMELY similar backgrounds, and I question the efficiency with which the hacker was handled, if indeed this was not a part of the game. AND if it were part of the game, then doc had to be in on it. I could be wrong, but probably not. jsut my thoughts

Er... I don't have time to check (I'm at work you see) but has anyone noticed this?
When you log into Hansoexposed.com with nothing loaded in your video sequence edit (all your clips in your storage boxes) and zoom into the first part of the empty sequence edit, in the space for the second clip there's something random there - a small clip in very dark blackandwhite that lasts about 1 second and seems to be some sort of symbol.
You're all so clever you must have figured this out already, but I'm a bit um lost. Anyone help me out on that?

well damn phillpx, if I got a glyph to hide for Rachel why would I tell you or anybody else? I just don't get why you don't get that....Doc did the right thing.

then he should own up to that thats all im saying. Why would he still claim to have an appernety HUGE security hole in his website?

Katty, that's just a space filler... Don't read into it too much.

Phillip, you're only book smart, aren't you? WISE UP, man.

Thats the point of the game, to not know everything but to figure it out with what we're given. And Doc isnt giving that info up.

I suppose that its not that important. Maybe I'm alittle preoccupied with people who claim to have defaced a website since I also have sites of my own. It was fun and all, but I think it would have been just as much fun under different non-security hole circumstances. Still it bothers me that I have a user on one of my sites who registered with rachel blakes email address.

phillpx....we all know Rachel isn't real too, but hey! That's the last I'm gonna say, if you don't get that, then you just don't get it and aren't as smart as you say you are.

DOC...what do you think about my GOLDIE??

Phillipx- You've stated your thoughts, now get over it and move on already!

Rachel isn't REAL!!???!!!

;-)

What? Rachel isnt real, Holy crap! that never occured to me. I have to rethink my entire life. Genius, pure genius in them thar threads

LOL, ROF....have I told you lately Vex how much I like you, haha.

So Doc must not be interested in my goldie :(

Well Done TLE

hmm Hate to say I told you guys so...

Phillipx: is Alternate Reality, for crying out loud. We all suspect it was a fake hack, and I think most of us understand Doc was role playing, for the Alternate Reality Game. It makes finding the glyph much more fun. And part of Doc's job, continues to be playing his assigned role...what about this is so hard to understand?

The part where he wasn't included, CrazyLatin.

Anonymous, my take is this: legally, ABC can't hack anyone, not even if they cause no damage it's against the law! And why would ABC want to place itself in a vulnerable legal position when they have the resources to execute the game without going through that trouble? It stands to reason then, that whoever had to give permission for the "hack" gave permission for it. So, Doc knew and he pretended not to know, thus making the hunt more exciting. Period. I for one, am not upset about any of it.

I want to add my voice to the chorus praising thie little glyph hunt! It was the most fun I have had in the game in quite some time. I agree with Ms. O that is was particularly cool that it wasn't about having super hi-tech knowledge or having to travel to a foreign country. Most of us could have soled that on our own, given enough time...yet it wasn't spoonfed. The perfect blend. It doesn't hurt that it put my fave site on the map!

As for the LP issue...As a mod of TTS, he has been a pain in my butt since day one and I have thought at times that Doc was a little too tolerant of his antics. Now he says that ITE and TLEC are better, friendlier places. That is just great. I don't have a lot of experience with the people at TLEC, but I am quite familiar with ITE. And in fact, I kept wishing that Leighsa from ITE would pop over with her lighter and demonstrate how she hunts trolls over at ITE.

*starts searching for my own lighter in case LP makes a return*

CrazyLatin... this falls under the "no sh!t sherlock " category and doesn't need to be explained here.

Capiche?

The wheresalvarhanso.com site has various clues...including numbers...are these map references?

OK guys. Tired of saying it.

ALVAR HANSO is the new code on the web via the Apollo Candy site.

Ive been posting it for three or four hours. Getting a little tired of the brush off.

Hitman, what's the significance of it?

Other than that's what the UK people are supposed to say to get an Apollo Bar?

woah! read through all the posts since my last and it seems that most peeps on here might wanna lighten up a bit, it's only a game, a light entertainment and i find i'm a player like a lot of you.
i am grateful for this site as it helps us players who arent that good at hi-tech stuff ;)

Hitman....it is believed to be the password to get the chocolate bars at the giveaways...you aren't being ignored, it's just been discussed.

and lost_grrl, getcha lighta out, lol

well tata for now....gotta get back to my refugees and find the still elusive glyph! It's been fun!

Ms. O' I LOVE Goldie! She looks like a real playah!

The wheresalvarhanso.com is acessible without a password now and contains various correspondance between an unknown and Alvar Hanso. The last is a memo which contains six strands of numbers:

23.1152345375
-39.97712009843963
-28.30078125
38.41055825094609
-47.021484375
27.293689224852404

I thought these might be latitude and longtitude map references. Anyone got any ideas???

Damn, I knew I wanted to say one other thing....Just gotta tell ya, I was soooo thrown off by the "CODE CORRUPTED Insert Fresh Copy" that appears when you select all on the page...

We and I use We loosely, actually Hagbard figured out that it's being generated by your counter. But I gotta tell ya, when I first saw it I thought I was on to something, hehe. Well, that's what happens when you aren't a techy!

Funny nobody else noticed it or commented...

I didn't cause I was trying to figure it out!

about time Doc! LOL, she's a '67 Gibson Les Paul Goldtop Deluxe....she is pretty isn't she! One of only about 32 made that year.

They use Sitemeter...same as us Ms O

Oh, and has anyone figured out the exact code on Alvars most recent letter on Whereisalvarhanso.com?

The "help" is obvious, but there has to be more.

Which, if any, of these "Where's Alvar" sites is legitimate? whereisalvar.com is still asking for a login. Are these other sites you're talking about confirmed in-game?

Just a quick..'Well Done!' and a round of applause to the guys at thelostexperience.com that's the way to play this *cough* experience *cough*....KUDOS!

*hands Frosty Cough Medicine*

I agree Kudos

Its hard to track whats "in-game" anymore because not only have our own site become "in-game" but we have never been offered proof beyond the eventual information provided but until that proof arises, we never know what is "in-game" and what is someone looking for some level of self importance. For instance, there are at least 12 people claiming to be Racheal Blake on myspace. There are obvious codes and information hidden on www.whereisalvarhanso.com but whether they are created by a fan or as an actual in-game clue is something we can only speculate about at this point.

I say we all keep an eye out and post whatever information we find until we discover one way or the other.

Hmmm... Thanks for your reply.

And for those looking the only 'in-game' site you should be concerned with right now is whereisalvar.com, ignore the rest! Cheers

wheresalvarhanso.com is not in game. This was discussed over on Speakers blog some time ago. Don't waste your time with it.

I effing knew that was a game related hacker. DAMN IM GOOD. Can you feel that? Huh? Can you feel it?

(sorry I got lost in my Jim Carrey quotes there) This means any site anywhere is now a suspect of the Lost Experience.

Man, I can't wait to hear what happens with this ApolloCandy stuff, huh? Did everyone else get that Rachel Blake Email? Everyone on here from the UK or one of the US cities in question better set aside some time for this!

I think all of us in the LA area should all meet up at the Santa Monica giveaway.

-sigh- If only there were coming anywhere remotely near Oklahoma City. But let's face it - if I was something as cool as The Lost Experience, I wouldn't come here either.. :D
Ah well, cue up Glyph #48 (or #42), and wake me when someone's come back from the Apollo giveaway with news, heh.

CREED
(I'll laugh if the glyph code for #42 is something like ZAPHOD or ANSWER...)

Creed, if they go that way, how about DOLPHINS? ;-)

Interesting - maybe its nothing, maybe its not even in-game... but someone mentioned whereisalvarhanso.com .. perhaps as the imprint on top of an Apollo candy bar as seen on the website. I checked it out, and at the end of each paragraph is a series of numbers. Nothing too complex, simplest alpha-numeric cypher there is (A=1, B=2, etc). It spells out "One man in his time plays many parts". Might be nothing, but worth keeping in mind, I suppose.

CREED
P.S. DOLPHINS would work too, heh heh :)

whereisalvarhanso.com is a fake site.

Please don't waste your time on it.

Hidden in the meta data of that site is a code with the url: lambdaiotaepsilon.com

A hoax from a while ago.

Thanks - sorry, I've only been keeping track of the legit sites, not the fake ones. -blush- And here I thought I was cool.. ;)

CREED

Well Done.
